As the annual Fancy Dress ball swiftly approaches and we get excited to don our gowns and tuxedos conversations about this year’s theme echo through the air all around campus. As many know, the theme of this year’s ball is A Midspring Night’s Dream, a clever play on the famous Shakespeare work A Midsummer Night’s Dream. As we reflect on Fancy Dress themes past and present, let’s take time to acknowledge those which will never see the light of day. Below are four of this year’s rejected Fancy Dress themes.
o Being Will Dudley: A night in the enigmatic mind of our philosophical president
o Roll Tide: We didn’t want to take the Mock Con setup down
o Canned Cocktails and Coop Lattes: surprising takes on old classics
o A Masquerade Masterpiece: let’s pretend for a night that we don’t all know each other
Though these themes seem exciting (how fun would a deep dive into the twisted mind of Will Dudley be), A Midspring Night’s Dream is sure to be a hit. What other theme could inspire a work of art in which the namesakes of our university are wearing fairy wings?
